The idea of helping people in need is introduced to the very youngest students at St. Mary's School....the three year olds in St. Mary's preschool! Every month, every student right through Grade 8 is encouraged to bring in a much needed food item for A Servant's Heart Food Pantry in Melrose. The food is collected from each classroom and loaded into cars by students in Grade 6, and then delivered to the Pantry. The Pantry relies on the generosity of everyone, and students learn at a very young age that helping others is very easy and very rewarding!
The Community Service Club made up of third and fourth graderswill once again be involved in helping our community! This powerful group of students is responsible for a beautiful collage that now hangs on the walls of the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless organization, bookmarks made for the Melrose Public Library, and for over $2,500 raised for A Servant's Heart Food Pantry by walking two miles after school.

Our commitment extends beyond our community to the Dominican Republic. We have pledged our support to The School of the Holy Child Jesus for the second year. Last year our funds provided some much needed achool supplies and books. This year, we are helping to fund a play area for the children in the school. This project, which is estimated to cost $7000, needs to be completed entirely by hand. The money is used to by concrete blocks to build a wall around the area so that the children will be safe while playing.
