I’m Mrs. Cunningham and I am excited to be teaching first grade for another year at St. Mary’s School. I have had thirteen years’ experience teaching in the primary grades including many in Catholic school. I’m looking forward to getting to know my first graders and see their tremendous growth.
This year your child will explore and construct knowledge in literacy, math, religion, science and social studies. As we dive into each topic or concept students will have many opportunities to practice new skills, share ideas, make mistakes, learn from each other and each experience. Learning will take place through many approaches including: small group, whole class, technology, independent work, and learning centers.
As I get to know each individual child I will work to differentiate the curriculum to provide for the best growth in each subject area. Differentiating instruction is very important to ensure that all students are actively engaged and learning, while being challenged appropriately in order to meet their full potential.
It is important to me that our classroom is a positive place where each child feels they belong, are safe and comfortable, and are respected for who they are and the gifts they possess. I want to work as a team to support the educational, emotional, and spiritual development of each child. Please do not hesitate to contact me to share information or concerns.
