Most of you remember me as a third grade teacher, but I am so excited to be teaching fourth grade again. This year we will learn and explore many new topics. Here are some things to look forward to:
In ELA this year we will be focusing on many different topics such as Journeys, Genres, Heros, Animals, and different types of Tales. You will build upon what you learned in third grade and be able to determine the main idea and details of a text, but you will also learn more about making inferences in what you have read. You will learn about how to determine the theme of a text and how to write a summary. Character traits will also be examined in depth. You will learn how to determine the point of view of a various stories and be able to compare and contrast them
We will begin the year by focusing on multiplication and division fact fluency to serve as a stepping stone for many concepts we will learn this year. In fourth grade you will learn about multiples and factors of whole numbers. Place value will be examined by using your understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic. We will review equivalent fractions and learn how to add and subtract fractions and how to multiply them with a whole number. We will also explore decimals and how they relate to fractions. This year we will also explore different forms of measurement and how to convert measurements. We will learn more about angles and lines as well.
Topics that we will learn about this year in science are extreme weather, natural occurrences and processes of the earth’s surface, animal adaptations, and energy.
In social studies this year we will explore the 50 states and capitals, map skills, immigration, and branches of government.
Students will examine the importance of virtues, the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, and much more.
