We are celebrating National European American Heritage month. While many of us are descendents of immigrants who traveled here years ago, there are still many Europeans who are coming to the United States for the first time. It is important that the children understand the sacrifices all immigrants make in order to enjoy the rights and freedom we have here in our wonderful country. The children are reading and listening to stories that highlight the European immigrant experiences. If you would like to visit a classroom and either tell a story, share some personal items or play a game related to your culture, please contact your child's teacher.
This year St. Mary's School will participate in the 22nd annual walk on Sunday, October 22. The theme this year, You Are Not Alone, highlights the commitment of the community to educate our young people and to support victims of domestic violence. Please consider joining us on that day. The route starts and ends at the Melrose Memorial Middle School.
K Wears Purple Proudly
Our Kindergarten class donned purple to Stand Up Against Violence. They had the highest percentage of students donned in purple and were awarded the title of Most School Spirit!
On Friday, October 27, St. Mary's will once again take part in the national celebration of Misfit Sock Day. On that day, students wear a favorite pair of misfit (mismatched) socks to celebrate differences and take a stand against bullying. The socks serve as a fun catalyst for conversation on the importance of being different and the courage it takes to acknowledge and celebrate those differences. Classes will be introduced to some of the "misfits" who went on to be come successful and famous becasue of their talents.
Sadly, millions of people are bullied because they are different. That is ironic, becasue God made each of us unique individuals with unique gifts and talents. We are all different, and all of us are magnificent MISFITS.
